Amazon.ca: ASUS Skype Video Phone Touch $209.99, Blue Microphone’s Snowball USB Microphone $81.49…

Some interesting items have come up for sale at Amazon.ca. They’ve got some discounted prices on some good quality Snowball USB microphones as well as on Asus Skype Video Phones.

The Skype video phone is actually very well reviewed — 4/5 based on 30 customer reviews at Amazon.com. It’s also selling for $206 US there, so the Canadian price is pretty solid.

Turning to the microphone, it’s a professional quality (or professional-amateur at least) microphone that connects via USB. If you do any kind of recordings (podcasts, singing, or instruments), this microphone should be a big improvement over normal consumer choices.

Shipping is free on orders over $39, so everything here qualifies.

Dell.ca: TrendNet VOIP USB Phone Adapter for Skype $14.99 + Free Shipping

August 26th, 2009 No Comments   Posted in RedFlagDeals
Here's an interesting one -- Dell.ca has a TrendNet VOIP USB Phone Adapter for Skype for $14.99 with free shipping. This device, properly set up, will allow you to use your regular phone to make and receive calls through Skype (while maintaining normally land line functionality). It's very tempting at this price, and certainly cheaper than Skype phones.

The adapter needs to be connected to your computer, a telephone line, and a regular phone. Plugging it into the base of a cordless phone means all associated headsets will be able make and receive Skype calls, so that seems like a good solution. For more information about compatibility and functionality, you can check out this review from TechRadar.com as well as an ongoing discussion about this deal in our hot deals forum.

Skype: 25% Off New 1-Year Subscriptions

April 28th, 2009 No Comments   Posted in RedFlagDeals
Forum poster Deemo has pointed out that Skype is currently offering a 25% discount on new 1-year subscriptions. You'll find rates of $2.95 US for unlimited calls to landlines and cell phones in the US and Canada and $12.95 US for unlimited calls to landlines in over 40 countries worldwide. The one catch is that "unlimited" means 10000 minutes due to fair usage policies, but still works out to over 5 hours of talk time per day per month, so you could call that functionally unlimited. The discount will be applied in your shopping cart.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Skype, it is a software program that allows users to make calls over the Internet to other Skype users free of charge. With a paid subscription and within the restrictions seen above, it can also be used to call landlines and cellphones.

eForCity.com: Multi-Purpose VOIP/SKYPE Headset, Silver $0.99 US + Free Ship (First 2000 Customers)

April 22nd, 2009 No Comments   Posted in RedFlagDeals
eForCity.com has a limited quantity special that many ofyou will want to take advantage of. It's a Multi-Purpose (VOIP / SKYPE) Headset, Silver for $0.99 US when you use coupon code MPHSS. It also comes with free shipping

The catch? The $0.99 price tag is only for the first 2000 customers. It's $3.49 for customers 2001-4000, and $4.99 for 4001 and on. We can't vouch for the quality, but frankly, considering the $0.99 US price with free shipping, we're willing to gamble a little.

Skype Phone PDA just $9.94 at Sears.ca

January 31st, 2009 No Comments   Posted in RedFlagDeals

Here’s a very interesting product from Sears.ca. They’ve got what they’re calling a Skype Phone PDA and it’s only $9.94 in their outlet section while quantities last. It works with Skype to help you make calls but it’s also a PDA of some sort. Granted it’s a PDA with a very low resolution monochrome display right out of the calculator world but it’s only $9.94 afterall so perhaps it’s worth a shot. Wonder if the speaker is powerful enough to use it as a Skype speakerphone. Shipping is free to Sears.ca stores but there is a $3 handling charge unless you purchase with the Sears credit card, in which case it’s waved.
